Created by the Commonwealth of Virginia, the County of Accomack and the County of Northampton and joined by the Town of Chincoteague, the A-NPDC has been the Eastern Shore of Virginia’s regional planning organization since 1970. Tasked with supporting local planning and community development efforts and providing technical assistance on behalf of the Commonwealth, the A-NPDC focuses on issues of regional importance. They also staff the Accomack-Northampton Regional Housing Authority and the Eastern Shore of Virginia Housing Alliance. By far the largest organization housed at the Enterprise Building, the A-NPDC has the most diverse work program. With three organizations, co-located in the Accomac office it is quite common to hear them referred to collectively as the “Housing Office.”

The Urban League of Hampton Roads, Inc. was founded in 1978 with a mission to assist African-Americans and others in the achievement of social and economic equality. The League implements its mission in four programmatic areas: Education and Youth, Employment and Economic Empowerment, Housing and Health and Wellness. The Health and Wellness Program provides strategies for optimal living by making choices that support fitness, good nutrition and medical care. Education, outreach and case management services are provided. A primary focus of the health program is to assist individuals that are HIV/AIDS positive. Additionally outreach and education activities are provided in order to combat the spread of the disease.
