This program helps adults with serious mental illness in the rehabilitation and enhancement of skills needed to live in the community, whether the individuals live on their own, with families, or in other residential settings (group home, supervised apartment, etc.). Services are structured and include a focus on independent living skills, social and community integration skills, and overall symptom management. Assessment of consumer needs and preferences is used to develop individualized plans for consumers. Client and family education are a critical part of this program for achieving successful and satisfying outcomes for the perple served.

The inpatient center is Maryview Behavioral Medicine Center, located on the campus of Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth. Chemical Dependency Consultation and Intervention Services This service is designed to recognize and treat chemical dependency in medical/surgical patients and to reduce the complications associated with chemical dependency. Service is provided by selectively trained members of Maryview's chemical dependency service, and includes medical, nursing and counseling services.

The Behavioral Health Services Division is dedicated to delivering quality mental health and substance abuse care through a variety of programs and services aimed at empowering the individual to improve their quality of life. It is the mission of the Behavioral Health Services Division to provide comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and community education services to the individuals of the catchment area. The orientation of the Behavioral Health Services Division is to utilize its resources in ways that are responsive to a variety of community behavioral health needs and to allow for a wide provision of services to individuals across the life span. Individuals are assisted with accessing services which are outside the scope of the Behavioral Health Services Division. The Behavioral Health Services Division provides a continuum of services from short-term therapy, child and adolescent therapy which includes 24-hour emergency crisis intervention services, psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment, through case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as housing and employment assistance for individuals diagnosed with a mental illness, substance use disorder, or a co-occurrence of disorders. This well organized, highly integrated delivery system serves to maximize continuity of care to its individuals. Services provided are based on the belief that treatment is individual driven and implemented in the least restrictive manner available. All behavioral health services offered adhere to professionally accepted standards and practices and are continuously monitored by the Behavioral Health Services Division's quality assurance procedures.
