Chemical dependency affects not only dependent persons but also those persons who surround them. Family members become emotionally stressed, display similar symptoms and become progressively immobilized. For every abuser, four to six family members, friends or fellow employees become affected. Research shows that the biggest protective factor for LGBTQ+ people is SOCIAL SUPPORT.  Support from family, friends, coworkers, classmates, supervisors, teachers, and neighbors are all crucial to LGBTQ+ wellbeing.  In addition to the support listed above, building relationships with other LGBTQ+ people has also shown to increase resilience and reduce feelings of social isolation and invisibility. Weekly in-person and virtual support groups for LGBTQ+ persons up to age 25. Referrals for affirming service providers (medical, legal, etc.). Housing and other types of emergency assistance also available, including some transition-related items.
