Established in 1994, Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) continues to be Arlington’s only provider of comprehensive healthcare services for adults living with a low income and without health insurance. While there are approximately 10,000 uninsured adults in Arlington County, AFC is the medical home for over 1,600 of these underserved members of our community. Piedmont Access to Health Services, Inc. ("PATHS") is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose mission is to provide healthcare to all citizens (in South Central Virginia) -- regardless of their ability to pay. The vision of PATHS is to provide access to quality primary and specialty care, prescription medication, case management and other ancillary services to the citizens of Southern Virginia and surrounding areas. It is the core value of PATHS that everyone has the right to quality health care. PATHS provides a medical home for everyone -- including the uninsured and underinsured as well as a point of entry into established human service agencies and health care system.

Central Virginia Health Services is a non-profit community health center with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status. They started in 1970 as a community-based and patient-directed organization focused on providing care to people with limited access to the health services they need. They are committed to and must uphold a high level of care, meeting administrative, clinical, and financial standards as part of responsibility as a FQHC. They offer comprehensive care: medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and at some sites, x-ray services. The majority of their governing board is made up of their patients – at least 51% of board members must be representative of the patients they serve.

Programs that provide antiretroviral drugs for individuals who have had a high risk episode to stop HIV from replicating and spreading throughout the body. PEP must be started as soon as possible to be effective, and always within three days of a possible exposure. Health care workers are evaluated for PEP if they are exposed to blood or body fluids of a patient who is infected with HIV. PEP can also be used to treat people who may have been exposed to HIV during a single event unrelated to work (e.g., unprotected sex, needle-sharing injection drug use or sexual assault). Treatment may be available at doctor's offices, emergency rooms, urgent care clinics or a local HIV clinic. Health care workers exposed to HIV on the job are generally covered by their workplace health insurance or Workers Compensation. In sexual assault situations, people may qualify for partial or total reimbursement by the Office for Victims of Crime, funded by the US Department of Justice. People in other situations who have no insurance can apply for free antiretroviral medicines through the medication assistance programs run by the manufacturers.

LGBTQ affirming counseling for youth and adults, play and expressive therapies for children and teens. Spanish language service available. Provides referral letters for hormone therapy and/or surgery.
