Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Virginia offers reproductive health and family planning services to the community. Additionally we provide comprehensive, medically accurate sex education to faith based groups and other community members.

Access to healthcare is a key element of any thriving community. With this in mind, Pathways Free Specialty Clinic is working with various partners to provide myriad health resources for Southside Virginia. Physicians and nurses volunteer their time to offer free services in the following areas: heart conditions, arthritis, sleep disorders, asthma, women?s breast health, and vaccinations for flu and Hepatitis B. We also provide education in nutrition, exercise, managing fibromyalgia, and more.

Inova Juniper Program is Northern Virginia's largest provider of HIV/AIDS care. We are proud to offer all aspects of primary medical care and mental health, substance abuse and case management services to HIV positive individuals along with a history of delivering compassionate HIV/AIDS clinical and education services. Our convenient services are available at locations around Northern Virginia. We provide compassionate, dignified care to individuals regardless of their sex, race, background, sexual orientation, religious preference, financial status or insurance coverage. They started in 1970 as a community-based and patient-directed organization focused on providing care to people with limited access to the health services they need. They are committed to and must uphold a high level of care, meeting administrative, clinical, and financial standards as part of responsibility as a FQHC. They offer comprehensive care: medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and at some sites, x-ray services. The majority of their governing board is made up of their patients – at least 51% of board members must be representative of the patients they serve.

Local Health Department The Botetourt County Health Department, part of the Alleghany Health District, offers a variety of programs and health services to enhance the health of the county’s citizens. Public health nurses, environmental health specialists and office support staff are dedicated to the mission of promoting optimum health, preventing disease and protecting the health of the community.

Programs that distribute test strips which can be used to detect the presence of fentanyl, xylazine, and many of their known analogs in a drug sample to reduce the number of opioid-related overdoses, severe injuries, fatalities, and other complications from contaminated drugs. Based on the results of the testing strips, people can choose to implement measures to reduce the risk of an overdose including using less of the substance, giving slow or test shots, not using alone, using with a naloxone rescue kit nearby or not using the substances at all. Other drugs in pill or powder form can also be tested (e.g., cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and other illegally obtained prescription medications) but must be mixed with water prior to testing.

The Free Clinic of Central Virginia serves low-income (200% of the federal poverty level or lower) persons without health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid for the service being requested and provided. Present figures indicate that over 70% of the patients are working at least one part-time job or more. At least one-third of the Free Clinic patients have been identified with chronic illnesses (i.e. asthma, diabetes, hypertension), which necessitate ongoing medical care and medications. Specialty medical services are available in 20 different areas. A Medication Accesss Program, which is called MedsHelp, provides prescription services to Free Clinic patients as well to patients referred by physicians in the Central Virginia community. A dental clinic for exams, dental hygiene services, restorations, and extractions treated 2,034 unduplicated patients in over 5,200 visits in 2011. Some dental specialty services have been added, but they are only provided to long term patients at this time.
