Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare (BRBH) is the Community Services Board serving adults, children and families with mental health disorders, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. We serve residents of the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the Counties of Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke.

Central Virginia Health Services is a non-profit community health center with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status. They started in 1970 as a community-based and patient-directed organization focused on providing care to people with limited access to the health services they need. They are committed to and must uphold a high level of care, meeting administrative, clinical, and financial standards as part of responsibility as a FQHC. They offer comprehensive care: medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and at some sites, x-ray services. The majority of their governing board is made up of their patients – at least 51% of board members must be representative of the patients they serve.

Gateway Homes is a non-profit organization that provides mental health services in a residential setting, located in Virginia on about 36 acres in Chesterfield County. Gateway was founded in 1983 by a group of concerned families and health practitioners whose lives were touched by severe mental illness. Our founders were personally motivated to create a new standard for helping their loved ones and friends with serious mental illness to achieve a better quality of life through expert, compassionate mental health supportive services. Gateway’s original campus is located in Chesterfield County, just south of Richmond, Virginia, and provides a residential setting with supportive services specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness.

Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare, located in Staunton, Va., provides trauma-informed psychiatric residential treatment for young men. Our continuum of care is intended to meet the needs of adolescent males, ages 12 to 17, who are experiencing complex emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. Programs are specifically designed for youth with psychiatric disorders and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. We also specialize in working with young men who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Programs are offered at multiple levels of care to address the needs of each individual. Some youth may require a secure residential setting while others may benefit from a community-based residential treatment approach. Youth attend school and participate in vocational training at Liberty Point Academy located on the secure residential campus.

In 1998, the County Board designated the ACCSB as an “administrative policy community services board.” Under this model, the County’s Department of Human Services is charged with the delivery and management of services while the ACCSB retains its role in policy determination, the direction of services and as an advocate of funding needs. The County serves as the fiscal agent for the ACCSB. To learn more about the relationship between the ACCSB and the County Manager, read the Memorandum of Agreement between the Arlington County Services Board and the Arlington County Manager. The ACCSB is an active body made up of interested members of the community who are appointed by the County Board. The ACCSB meets monthly. Members also frequently participate in one of the committees established by the ACCSB that represent the major service areas. Within these committees are opportunities to provide evaluations of services and to influence budget requests or allocations. The ACCSB is composed of a Chairperson, appointed by the County Board, and as many as 17 other members. Complete documentation of household income is required and must be provided at the time of service to be eligible. There may be certain programmatic or flat fees that cannot be adjusted.
