Programs that provide counseling services for individuals at risk for contracting or transmitting the HIV virus with the objective of supporting their ability to make behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. Counseling involves a personal risk assessment, development of a personalized action plan and the decision to seek an HIV test. Individuals who have a history of injection drug use, unprotected intercourse or sexual contact, sexual activity at a young age, multiple sex partners, sexually transmitted infection, and/or sex trade work are considered to be at high or increased risk and are targets for prevention counseling.

Central Virginia Health Services is a non-profit community health center with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status. They started in 1970 as a community-based and patient-directed organization focused on providing care to people with limited access to the health services they need. They are committed to and must uphold a high level of care, meeting administrative, clinical, and financial standards as part of responsibility as a FQHC. They offer comprehensive care: medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and at some sites, x-ray services. The majority of their governing board is made up of their patients – at least 51% of board members must be representative of the patients they serve.

Shenandoah County Free Clinic sees people at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level who have no other means of acquiring health care. Most of the patients are below 100% of the poverty level. Approximately two-thirds of the patients have one or more chronic conditions requiring continuing medication. Thanks to award-winning volunteers and donated services, the clinic is able to provide over $8 in care for every dollar received.

Southside TC has a dedicated team of treatment specialists including doctors, nurses and counselors to provide comprehensive care to each patient.

Inova Juniper Program is Northern Virginia's largest provider of HIV/AIDS care. We are proud to offer all aspects of primary medical care and mental health, substance abuse and case management services to HIV positive individuals along with a history of delivering compassionate HIV/AIDS clinical and education services. Our convenient services are available at locations around Northern Virginia. We provide compassionate, dignified care to individuals regardless of their sex, race, background, sexual orientation, religious preference, financial status or insurance coverage. Catawba Hospital is a temporary home. Catawba is an inpatient psychiatric facility with 110 beds that provides comprehensive mental health services including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. Catawba serves adult patients 18 years and older, with specialized expertise in the treatment of geriatric patients. Catawba Hospital provides the highest standard of professional care. Individualized treatment is provided through interdisciplinary teams (including psychiatry, nursing, internal medicine, social work, psychology, substance abuse, psychosocial rehabilitation, pharmacy, and dietary). Programs in a newly designed treatment mall emphasize psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery from mental illness, and re-integration into the community. Catawba is a Joint Commission accredited facility, certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

NovaSalud is committed to providing care to people living with HIV regardless of their ability to pay. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, the Ryan White Program provides linkage to the Ryan White HIV care and supportive services. NovaSalud provides free confidential HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C counseling and testing for residents living in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. Outreach testing has been the foundation of NovaSalud's successful HIV prevention program for the past decade. Appointments are available by phone, online scheduling, or walk-in. The Comprehensive Harm Reduction (CHR) Program is part of a larger Public Health strategy to reduce negative health outcomes for people who engage in substance use. NovaSalud Program incorporates a spectrum of strategies and evidence-based interventions that include overdose, HIV/HCV transmission, and other infection prevention. NovaSalud programs provide support to diverse community members in the DC metropolitan area.
